No. The tracker uses its own compatible cellular SIM and data plan to report to Lifeline. Cellular coverage is required for uploads; reports may be delayed when coverage is unavailable.
That’s the idea. A supported Thingy:91 X running Lifeline firmware can connect after individual device provisioning. Standard Nordic demonstration firmware will not connect to Lifeline. Contact us before changing firmware so we can confirm compatibility and setup.
GNSS works best with a clear view of the sky. Lifeline can use a private Wi-Fi map built from observations correlated with known GNSS locations as a fallback. That map needs to learn a place first, and a Wi-Fi estimate can be broad or unavailable. A last known position is never a guarantee of a current position.
Contact us through this website to discuss a configured tracker or provisioning your existing Thingy:91 X. Hardware and monitoring are purchased through the website; the iPhone app is free. We’ll confirm your setup, cellular coverage and service terms before purchase.
Lifeline is for authorized users and the caregivers they invite. Account sign-in and family access controls protect each tracker’s information. Track people only with appropriate knowledge, permission and authority. See our privacy notice for how the service handles information.
